on occasion

What's the one household chore one can do while in labor (with child) and recovering from violent illness? Laundry, of course.  The exertion is minimal, the industrious hum of the dryer and washer, and the reward of fresh diapers, towels and socks that need no immediate folding are a satisfying way to make oneself feel not entirely useless even when gravely weak.

My latest FlyLady habit to practice is a load a day.  Before one goes downstairs for the day, grab an armload of dirty clothes, and fill the washer to the brim.  But only one load.  I admit to cheating sometimes,   calling diapers that extra load that's more it's own project than regular laundry.

Laundry Room.  Not something we commonly take pictures of of think too much about!

Wish my laundry room looked so clean and bright. I make piles on top of the dryer! It seems like a surface needs to hold some ...things!

You hadn't told me that you follow Flylady! Does that mean that some of my words of wisdom reach real ears??? From a grandmotherly standpoint, I would rather you waited one more day when you're sick before doing laundry. Your body is telling you that it needs rest...I'm weak, I'm tired, I'm ready to lie down to heal. Of course, if we're talking about diapers, you probably have no choice!

Ditto what Bonnie said!

I hope you're feeling much better. It's so hard to take care yourself when you have to take care of another, but then that's why you must take care of yourself. Wish I was there to help .... :-(

The Flylady tips you gave me last year have been such a help! Who knew that little hints here and little hints there could make big differences - if not in my total house. at least the way I feel about it!

The picture is our house pre-moving in...Lots of piles on dryer now!

Yes, Mimi, I've actually gotten a Rubba Scrubba and it DOES pick up dog hair rather miraculously. I like their rubber toilet scrubber, too, since the other kind usually end up scratching the bowl. But, not a big fan (yet) of the rubber dish brushes. I'm trying to adopt one or two Fly Lady habits at a time, over time. And it did all start with your suggestion!

Wow! That's exciting, Kell! I sometimes thing that everything I say goes into the great and vast universe before anyone notices. :o)
You're actually doing better than I am as I don't have any of her cleaning tools. The rubber toilet scrubbers sound good. I bought a calendar last year, but ended up with a Sandra Boynton one this year that I really like. (It's from Sam's)I don't think I'd like the rubber dish brushes either. And I think in some cases, the things I'm using do a good job. Remember the cleaning stuff I sent to you? I'm so glad that I've been helpful...nice to know.

Oh, neat, Kell! I have mine right next to my computer and write on it every day. Lately I've been writing in several journals (I seem to start a new one every week) with a fountain pen. I realize that if I keep the bottle of ink open and dip my pen in it, it feels like I'm floating along--gives me a feeling of being connected to the past somehow. I even made myself a journal out of some antique-looking stationery and it's so freeing to write without lines--something I never thought I'd say!
